UCI Early Career Fellowship for UCI Global Studies Conference (Jan 2022)

Early career scholars doing critical interdisciplinary research on pressing global issues are encouraged to apply for a fellowship to attend the 3rd Annual UCI Global Studies Conference. The conference will be held January 21 – January 22, 2022 and will be hosted by the Department of Global & International Studies at the University of California Irvine.

Mindful of the continuing pandemic, the carbon footprint of international travel, and longstanding challenges for scholars from the global south to obtain visas and resources for international travel, the conference will be held with a hybrid format, including in-person activities for those who can be present and remote/virtual platforms for participation by those who cannot join us in person.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to support professionalization in the field of Global Studies, including successful publishing, by fostering quality mentorship for junior scholars.

Successful applicants will present a work in progress to a panel of distinguished scholars. Panel mentors will comment on the Fellow’s work, making suggestions intended to increase the likelihood it will be accepted for publication. Topics of discussion could include the way research topics and questions are framed, engagement with relevant literature in the field, support for strengthening analytical rigor, significance of the work, avenues for further research and funding, and specific journals or publishers to which the work could be submitted.

The deadline for applications is October 1, 2021.
