This conference is organized by the Transnationalizing the Study of the United States research cluster, a research arm of the Orfalea Center for Global & International Studies at UCSB. Registration is free. All presentations will be translated into English, Arabic, and Spanish.
We invite you to participate to reflect upon the current globalized carceral reality, and on imprisonment as one tactic of control, subjugation and dispossession. The conference presents an opportunity for scholars to contribute to our understanding of prisons, torture, violence, power, securitization and related issues. It also invites transnational engagement with the wide range of resistance tactics and transgressions that prisoners, worldwide, devise against state policies and incarcerating regimes.
Conference participants include:
- Mohamedou Ould Salahi
- Aida Seif el-Dawla
- Corina Giacomello
